The most crucial stage in selecting candidates for the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) program is the initial medical check-up (MCU). It was held on 14 July 2025 at Melania Hospital, Bogor, from 08.00 until around 12.00. All candidates were required to fast from the night before so the results would be more accurate.
The MCU included an examination by a general practitioner, blood pressure, weight and height checks, a color blindness test, and tests for blood sugar, uric acid, cholesterol, a chest X-ray, and HBsAg. The aim is to make sure candidates are in good health and free from chronic conditions that could affect their work in Japan.
“This medical check-up is not a formality. It is a strict standard to make sure candidates are physically and mentally ready for the Japanese workplace, which demands a high level of discipline.”
Beyond physical health, the check-up also reflects Japan's high workplace safety standards. The color blindness test, for example, helps prevent human error at work, such as misreading color codes or buttons, which could cause accidents.
With good MCU results, candidates show not only physical readiness but also commitment to professional responsibility in a disciplined, high-tech workplace. This thorough check-up is an important foundation before they enter the final stage of training and job placement in Japan.
